I remember when I first started shooting. Every thing, person or object was in the center. Dead center. Then I heard something about the rule of 3rds. Like every other term I don't understand, I turned to google. The rule of 3rds is just an intimidating way to say, "Hey, don't be a perfectionist. It's actually better when you off center people or subjects in your images."
One of my favorite things about the Rule of 3rds is to play with negative space. It is not necessary to fill up every inch of your photograph with something. Sometimes leaving empty space in a photograph actually causes the eye to focus more on the subject.
Monday Challenge: Take a picture of someone or something and try to use some negative space.
