6/365 - Street Photography

by Amy Rhodes

After a client has booked me for pictures, the next conversation is always location.  Location. Location. Location.  People love the green grass, the mountains and anything pretty, and so do I.  However, one of my favorite spots to shoot is the street.  The flat, unimpressive asphalt.  I love how it allows the main focus to be the person being photographed.  I also love how light bounces up from the ground and fills the image.

Today I took Thomas out into the street in front of my house to take pictures for his baptism invitation.  I can't believe my baby boy is turning 8 in a couple weeks.  It doesn't seem possible.  Sometimes it's tricky to get a genuine reaction from kids, especially your own!  With Thomas I had to resort to bathroom humor.  I asked him to spell, ' I cup.'  Quite possibly the best way to get a 7-year-old to crack up.  Works every time.
