7/365 - My favorite spot.

by Amy Rhodes

I have a favorite spot in my house to take pictures.  It is the go to spot that i use all the time.  If it weren't the first day back to a normal routine today I would post different pictures that I have taken there.  However, I have felt like a zombie this entire day.  2 weeks of living-it-up and throwing away any form of a schedule can really throw you for a loop!  6 am came way too early today and I didn't want to admit the kids had to go back to school and I had to go back to keeping a schedule and playing taxi driver.  I don't think I ever recovered today.

We were running short on time this afternoon, so I took the kids to my go-to spot and snapped a quick picture of them.  I love it.  This is how they are.  They are not acting for the camera in this picture.  They love each other and are the best of friends.

I wanted to show you my magic spot, aka my back door.  I love it because the only light that comes in the room is from the sliding glass door.  Whenever I want to take a picture where the background disappears and turns black, this is where I go.  I open the door and have them sit just at the edge of the light.  It makes for great pictures without distracting objects in the background.

D700  105mm  ISO 800  F2.8  1/200 - My ISO was a little high because the sun had already set and it was getting dark outside.  Because my f-stop could only go down to 2.8 had to compensate with my ISO.  I couldn't go any lower on my shutter speed because I was using a large telephoto lens and I wanted to avoid camera shake.

This is my favorite spot in my house.  Even though I have clutter in the background, because their faces are the only thing the light is falling on, everything else fades to black.

This is a side image.  You can really tell how their faces are the only thing illuminated.  It was very dark in the room, but I only needed a little light to get the image I wanted.
